Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get the high-resolution images from my session or wedding?
Yes! I hand-select and edit a generous selection of images from your day. You will have access to the high-resolution files for these images.
How many photos will we receive?
For weddings and events, I average roughly one image per minute of coverage (for example you could get less if there is travel between the getting ready, ceremony and reception sites).
When will I get my images?
Your portrait session images will be delivered to you online within a month, and wedding images will be returned within two months. However, I generally deliver sessions and weddings much quicker than this.
Can I get all of the raw images, and edit them myself?
No, I always go through and select the images to be delivered, and edit them for color, exposure, etc. I DO NOT “retouch” all photos for blemishes, etc. (See below.)
Do you offer additional retouching?
I generally do not modify images to make someone look “thinner” or otherwise modify body appearance. I am there to document you – not to change you! My printed product prices include additional retouching, such as blemish removal or similar edits.
Do you do venue walk-throughs?
I generally do not find it necessary to perform a site walk-through, as I arrive early on the day of a wedding to introduce myself to key people, and to scope out the venue. During this time, I familiarize myself with the ceremony and reception sites, scope out the best locations for portraits, etc.
Do you offer albums and prints?
Absolutely! I have found that – aside from photographing you in the first place – there is nothing that brings more joy than seeing your day unfold through a beautiful album, or by a series of prints. I hand-design each album, and walk you through choosing the best options (color, material, etc.). Similarly for prints, I help you choose images that compliment each other, and decide your best print options.
What should I wear to my portrait (engagement, head shot, family) session?
The best thing to wear is something you feel fabulous in. YOU should be the focus of the session – not your clothes! I recommend staying away from distracting patterns (extremely bold prints, many types of stripes, prints that are very small, etc.), and prefer to stay away from solid black or solid white (unless textured, like lace or crochet).
Do you have a cancellation fee?
Each session or wedding has a retainer fee that is non-refundable – but it IS transferable pending my availability. If for some reason you were to cancel, the retainer would be kept as it is your way of securing your date, and I have lost the potential to book that date.
How long have you been doing this?
I have been photographing in some capacity or another since 2004, which is when I learned photography on a film camera. I began photographing freelance in 2005. In 2010-2012 I worked for a photography studio in Maryland. Over the past two years (2017-2019) I have been focusing on my photography as a full-time business!
Have you ever not made it to a wedding or session?
No! I did come down with a stomach bug once on a Saturday, when I was traveling from Maryland to West Virginia to photograph a wedding on Sunday. I made sure to hydrate, took lots of digestive enzymes, drank lots of coconut water, and I was actually feeling much better by the time of the ceremony and almost completely better as of the reception time. No key moments were missed!
What are the steps to book?
I require a contract for all sessions and weddings. For weddings I do require that we have a consultation prior to booking. The consultation can be over the phone, but it’s best if we can have it in person. My main goal is to make sure that we are a good fit for each other! The contract can be sent out at any time, and is sent via email. As long as I know your date, location (general area will do) and what you want to do (hours of coverage, and if you need a portrait session), I can send you a contract. If you decide to move forward with booking you would simply sign the contract.
Do you accept credit/debit cards?
Checks are preferred (darned credit card company fees…), but I can accept credit or debit cards. I know that the convenience of paying with a credit or debit card can be a huge relief when life is so busy!
